The Carbon Footprint of ChatGPT

This article attempts to estimate the carbon footprint of the popular OpenAI chatbot called ChatGPT

UPDATE March 20, 2023: In this blog post, I assumed that ChatGPT used 16 GPUs. Given ChatGPT’s popularity, this number has now been estimated to be upwards of 29,000 [10].
