Mapping travel time to places in Singapore

Today I’m playing with rmapzen package to create some isochrone maps.

Isochrone maps depicts contours with equal travel time to particular location, by different modes of transport.

Here I plotted drive time to Orchard and walk time to Garden by the Bay.

Isochrone maps can be put to good use: for example, to find a house within x minute of public transport to work by overlapping isochrone map with district/zipcode shapefile to narrow down the search, or find out which area are least covered by healthcare facilities, which area are most covered by education sectors etc. I have yet to figure out if multiple isochrones can be created with rmapzen, depicting contours of travel distance to different locations.

This is #day38 of my #100dayprojects on data science and visual storytelling after away traveling a couple of weeks. Full code is on my github. Thanks for reading and feedbacks are welcomed.
